Depends on the person but I would have to say most women probably do a better job than men at fibbing.

Actually us women are; it's very simple. Let's say that Bertha joins our card party wearing the uglies looking hat imaginable, and when she's not looking we give each other looks and snicker.  And when she asks the rest of us, "What do you think of my hat?"  <she turns this way and that so we can see it at all angles (we're sticking our fingers down our throats) a very expectant look on her face> We, of course, lie and say, "Oh, Bertha dear that is such a hat."

lets say on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being unable to lie at all and 10 being able to do it so well that chance of detection is removed. Women would fall into the 5 area, average men might be 3 or 4. Really adept women might hit as high as 7 but a really adept man would be close to 9.

More women are well versed in lying but the best liars are men. its just that women lie more.

Lying is a skill like any other and requires practice.

In response to Baba Yaga's questions: the first is just as likely these days to come from a woman working in government, as is a variation on the second ("I'll call you").

I also agree that verbal manipulation is taught to daughters, and is more readily excused in girls and women.  

Teaching girls has shown me that manipulation of each other, and of males (whether they be peers or teachers) is a standard first response for girls in many situations.  Boys would rather argue a point and prove they are right, girls want to flutter their eye-lashes and get you to conded that you are wrong (not necessarily that they are right).

You here many women describe other women as conniving and manipulative, just as you hear men say it.  You rarely hear men criticise other men for being manipulative.

DESPITE four thumbs down, even most of the women here say that women are the true liars.  Perhaps Baba Yaga and the like are lying again....to themselves.

Definately NOT a gender issue.  It is purely a personality and personal experience issue.

Women.  I do believe every mother trains her daughter at a young age to manipulate, tell lies, and know how to pick up when someone else is lying (my mother sure as h**l taught me).  Life lessons!
