  1. Menard's because the people are nicer and the selection is wider.

  2. I want you to know something.

Buy from a establishment that will have the parts you need 5 years from now.

We bought ours from McCoys. A large lumber company in our area with lumber yards in many towns.

They have no dedicated window firm. They buy and sell from whoever is the cheapest.

Our windows did good for a long time. Then little things like the locks would break and the springs that help you open the window and keep it up failed.

When we went to get replacement parts, -----there was none.

We even had a hard time retrofitting general use products to fix the windows.

It may cost a little more, but buy a brand name window from a company that will be around with the necessary repair/replacement parts when you need them later.

  3. i would buy from a manufacture before i went to either stores.why pay a middle man to do a little paper work

  4. As a General Contractor I can tell you that *Service is the big question - not price.

Big stores thrive on volume - not service.

Things you can experience at the big box stores.

Incomplete fill of your order - *Some of your windows come in, but not all of them.

    * Windows are damaged - some come in all shrink wrapped and it's hard to inspect them before you load them in your truck.

    * Wrong color, glass, no instructions on installation.

    * No body can help you if you have a question on installation.

I order all my windows through local lumber yard, or window store such as Pella. Full support and no problems.

For example just call both your big box stores and see how long it takes you to be put in contact with someone who knows windows. I'd be curious - send back info as a comment to your original question.

Also, one year those big stores have your windows - guess what - the next year they change vendors, and they no longer have them.
