http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diego-c11058 Godin’s first half goal gave Atletico Madrid their third straight win in La Liga, while Osasuna slumped to yet another defeat at Reyno de Navarra.
After going a goal down in the final minutes of the first half, Jose Luis Mendilibar’s men did their best to get something out of the match; however, they failed in their attempt to do so. It was their second home defeat in three matches, adding a
measly single point in the process from an available 9 in front of home fans.
The tactician was discontented with the result and voiced his disappointment at their approach to the game.
Mendilibar reflected that they had to be adventurous in the tie but failed to do so. He added that they were wrong in their approach to settle for a point against a good team.
"We have to get outside, too. We cannot settle for points at home. We know that come this time we must be strong away from home. The next Sunday we travel to Gijon and have to try to score," he said.
The 50-year-old tactician admitted Osasuna were inferior to their hosts, who were more aggressive in their approach in the first half and deserved the victory. Mendilibar lamented the scarce scoring chances they created which made the difference in
the end.
"They are an intense and aggressive team and were been better than us. We had to work hard in the first part."
"We matched their aggressiveness in the second half. With 0-1 we created two moves to kill the game. I have left alive and then we have tightened. The goalkeeper was good and we could not score a goal" he added.
However, the coach was perplexed by the referee’s decisions. An Atletico Madrid physiotherapist was shown a yellow card, and Mendilibar stated that it is the first time he saw something like that.
After a good start to the season, the Navarre-based outfit have been unimpressive in their performances. They have yet to register a win in 2012 thus far, and they travel to El Molinon for their next league game against Sporting Gijon.
Following their dismal defeat at Pamplona, Osasuna are tenth in La Liga rankings, four points away from UEFA CHampions League qualifying berth.
