Menendez-MacEiras upsets Roberto Bautista-Agut in the 2nd round – Todi Challenger 2011
Roberto Bautista-Agut, Spain, was destroyed by compatriot Adrian Menendez-MacEiras in the 2nd round match on Wednesday, 14th September as the former was pulled down from one set up to lose the fixture 6-1,2-6,3-6. It
took the 25-year-old Spaniard two hour and thirteen minutes to counter his fellow countryman and make it into the next round of the Todi Challenger 2011.
Playing for the very first time, the two met at a crucial stage of the ATP Challenger, however, comparatively Bautista had the greater edge for being at the higher end of world rankings. Playing on Classic clay circuit the two
Spaniards entered the court for the 2nd round showdown.
The fixture kicked off with Bautista serving first and opening up the match. Scoring first the 23-year-old took the advantage lead and switched the serve. The former world number 156 then ripped off all the string of compatriot,
Menendez, when he stormed the next 4 games, breaking the 25-year-old twice, and taking the lead, 5-0.
Menendez pulled back a game, yet, could not prove fruitful and finally, with the 23-year-old serving for the set, lost game 7 and the set 6-1  in less than 40 minutes and moved on to try his competence in set 2.
Kicking off with the second set, Menendez served for the starter and took out the opening game, 1-0. Following with a win, the 23-year-old levelled up the scores and switched back the serve. Rallying with equal returners, the two
then equalled again at 2-2 with Menendez to serve next.
The 25-year-old pushed then pressurized the 23-year-old fellow countryman and succeeded in pulling of two straight games including a breaking point in the second win. with scores now at 4-2 in favour of the older Spaniard, Menendez
came storming back up as he levelled up the match scores 1-1 winning the last two game points, 6-2, and moved on to the decider set.
With the final set on its way, Menendez opened up the scoreboard and took the lead, 1-0, however, the 23-year-old world No. 170 levelled up the scores immediately. Winning of respective serves the two then again levelled up at
2-2 before the younger Spaniard broke the 25-year-old for the first time in the decider to lead the game 3-2.
The decider fired up when Menendez broke back the next game to level the scores, 3-3, and followed with a win on his own serve to extend his lead to 4-3. With the 23-year-old pressurized, the older Spaniard use this as his advantage
breaking the higher ranked Spaniard once again and serving out the final game of the third set winning 6-3 and the match 6-1, 2-6, 3-6.
With a startling win against his fellow countryman, Menendez now sits easy waiting for a contender to fill up the rival seat in the quarterfinal round of the Todi Challenger 2011.
