Question:

Menopause Help? Hot Flashes are me!!!?

I just turned 44 in July. I have been getting signs that I was near menopause for a couple of years. Irregular periods, stronger bodily responses to ovulation, more intense mood swings, etc. From January to June this year, I only had two and a half periods, the last was when my thirteen year old daughter got her first in April. I had what I thought was one or two hot flashes in that time. In the past couple of weeks, I have had between two and fifteen hot flashes per day, some so intense that I became nauseous or my thighs were sweating in an environmentally controlled area. I plan to see a doctor in three or four weeks, but until then can someone give me some homeopathic ways to control the hormones? Where can I get free testing?

  1. You might want to consult with a homeopath certified to practice classical homeopathy. Peri-menopause and menopausal symptoms (which manifest differently for each woman) are responsive to homeopathy. In health there are no symptoms (a truth of which few women are aware), so a homeopath will explore your health and life history to understand how best to help you.

  2. You will need to get your hormone levels tested (by blood) with your doctor.

You can take Evening Primrose Oil, however it does not work over night. Talk to your pharmacist about vitamin supplements you can take, which you should do now that your body's needs are changing now.

In the meantime, keep a water bottle with you to sip on, baby wipes (to wipe down and attempt to feel cooler... you can hide in a washroom stall and wipe down what you can)... as well as bring an extra change of clothes in the trunk of your car. As well, you can take a spray bottle of cool water to mist on your face.

When you get a hot flash, sit down, sip on some water and spray your face. I know that they aren't fun.
