Menorah to build on his Aintree success - Ryanair Novice Chase at Punchestown
Menorah is full of spirit after his recent success at Aintree and thus, the punters are likely to place maximum number of bets on him in the Grade 1 Ryanair Novice Chase, being held at Punchestown on Friday, April 27, 2012.
According to the plan, the 2-mile event will be started at 16:55 GMT. The going is heavy and seven speedy runners are all set to compete for a hefty cash prize worth €62,000.
Among the entries are: Menorah, First Lieutenant, Kumbeshwar, Blackstairmountain, Lucky William, Shot From The Hip and Regal D´estruval.
Menorah would have been under tremendous pressure after his embarrassing defeat at Cheltenham Festival last month. In the Grade 1 Racing Post Arkle Challenge Trophy Chase, Philip Hobbs’ trainee missed the runner-up place by
22 lengths.
Despite a disappointing outcome at Cheltenham, the maverick gelding did not lose his confidence and came up with an excellent effort at Aintree.
The Grade 1 Betfred Manifesto Novices' Chase saw him topping the chart by seven lengths. The seven-year-old is taken to build on his success at Aintree. Therefore, his opponents need to perform out of their skins to do well
today.
Among his rivals, First Lieutenant is being considered as the biggest threat. The seven-year-old was impressive last time out. In the RSA Chase at Cheltenham, M. F. Morris’ trainee finished second on the table.
He gave a lot of hard time to Nicky Henderson’s winning runner, Bobs Worth, but remained adrift by two and a half lengths. His supporters are expecting him to show an improved performance this time around.
Another contender with fair chances is Lucky William. Although a few other candidates boast stronger profiles, the eight-year-old’s chances cannot be ignored since he is a fresh winner.
Nina Carberry Novice Handicap Chase saw him beating Last Time D'Albain by one and a quarter lengths. Alan King’s Kumbeshwar is also a talented runner, but it would be a brave move to bet on him.
According to our predictions, Menorah is in good shape to demonstrate a dominating performance. First Lieutenant is capable of troubling him in the middle, but it would be an uphill task for him.
