Men’s Doubles coach, Pang Cheh Chang takes up challenge to train Tan Boon Heong and Koo Kien Keat
Pang Cheh Chang, the Men’s Doubles coach for Malaysia, has taken up the challenge to train the country’s top pair of Tan Boon Heong and Koo Kien Keat. Both shuttlers decided to leave training under Rexy Mainaky, the chief coach of doubles and join Cheh Chang
as they have been suffering with a bad patch and have failed to win any major event during the last 18 months.
The 37-year-old Cheh Pang has been working as a coach in the national setup of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) for a long period of eight years. The pressure to produce better performances from Tan Boon and Koo Kien does not shake his determination
as he is ready to take up the challenge.
Tan Boon and Koo Kien, who are presently placed at Number Five in the Men’s Doubles world rankings, requested the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) that they want to train under the supervision of Cheh Chang.
Cheh Chang said, “I am ready to help if the management and Rexy are agreeable to the players’ request. I will continue with what Rexy has started with Koo and Tan and I will do my best to help them end their chase for honours at the London Olympic Games.”
He further added, “I have no personal interests in accepting the players’ request. My only intention is to help them and perform my duty to bring honour to the country. It will be better if all coaches work as a team to help Kien Keat-Boon Heong regain their
form.”
The coach wants to work together with the National Sports Council for the training of Tan Boon and Koo Kien Keat. He is determined to produce better results in the upcoming events and also win the medal at the 2012 Olympic Games.
However, Ng Chin Chai, the secretary of BAM has announced that the decision regarding any changes in the coaching structure will be made in the meeting of the Training and Coaching Committee (CTC), on September 8, 2011.
