Men’s Pan American Volleyball Cup slated for coming Monday – Volleyball News
According to the freshly released schedule of North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Federation (NORCECA), the 2012 Men’s Pan American Cup will be kicked off on coming Monday, July 9.
Santo Domingo in Dominican Republic will provide the ground for thrilling volleyball action, while eight teams will be on board to contest their game skills. The grid of eight teams will be further divided into two pools: Pool A and Pool B.
Canada, hosts Dominican Republic, Argentina, and Trinidad & Tobago will be placed in Pool A teams, while Pool B will be composed of teams from Mexico, Brazil, United States and Venezuela.
This is going to be the seventh edition of the Pan American Volleyball Cup, which will create another fine opportunity for participating teams to showcase their talent and flair in front of the bigger audience.
The competition will cover its length in three flights. The action will kick-start with the preliminary round-robin, which will be followed by the quarterfinals. The last stage of the tournament will feature two semi-finals, the final showdown and the classification
matches for different positions. Top teams of the prelims from both pools will go straight into the semi-finals, while the second and third ranked teams will meet in the quarter-finals. The tournament will cover its length on July 14.
The champion of 2012 Pan American Volleyball Cup will clinch a berth in the Qualification Tournament for 2013 FIVB World League, which will take place at the end of this season. Dominican Republic is expected to receive the teams on Saturday. The participating
teams will have their technical meetings and press appearances on Sunday.
Brazil will enter the competition as defending champion as it defeated United States in the previous edition of the Pan Am Cup. Canada hosted the 2011 Pan American Cup and settled for third position in the competition. Dominican Republic ended eight last
year. However, the team has high hopes to give out a better performance in front of the local fans this year. The Dominican Republic Volleyball Federation recently held a press conference and introduced the team that will compete in the 2012 Pan Am Cup. Jose
Caceres will be attached with the national team as captain.
American team, which has four gold medals to its name, is the pre-favourite of the tournament. However, the US team is likely to have a tough competition with Brazil and Mexico. Likewise, the home team will also try to create buzz on the centre court. Lets’
