Men’s gold medal of the Central American BVB Championship goes to Guatemala – Volleyball News
The 12th Central American Men’s Beach Volleyball Championship concluded in El Salvador this past Sunday and Guatemala’s Julio Recinos/Luis Garcia settled for the top position of the tournament.
In the all-Guatemalan final match, Recinos- Garcia defeated compatriots Andy Leonardo/Erick Garrido, 2-1 (21-17, 18-21, 17-15). The winning duo was labelled as GUA-2, while the losing pair was tagged GUA-1 in the competition. Recinos- Garcia claimed their first gold medal in the history of Central American Beach Volleyball Championship.
They started out on a good note and led the score in the first set of the final showdown. Both players had a good chemistry between them, which helped them to earn good points. Powerful hitter Recinos showed quality in attack, while his teammate saved crucial points via impressive digging. The rival side tried to come up, but faced a lot of resistance and kept in chase. Recinos- Garcia of GUA-2 secured the first stanza of the match with 4 points, 21-17.
Following the loss of opening set, Leonardo/Garrido hit back aggressively in the second set. They put up a spirited effort and used different tactics to break the tempo of opponents. It was not an easy task to down charged-up Recinos- Garcia as they had one set-win in hand. Nevertheless, the hard work paid and GUA-1 managed to claim second frame with a small margin at 21-18.
In the decisive third set, both sides exchanged long rallies and displayed extreme action on the centre court. The noise of spectators also added a great vibe in the competition. As the third set inched its way to the end, the excitement of fans increased. Eventually, Recinos- Garcia captured third set with two points (17-15) and announced match victory.
“Our best match so far, we fought each and every point. We make a good team, we complement each another and I believe that was a fundamental factor for today’s win. This is the first time we defeat Andy and Erick as we’ve been working together as a team,” said Recinos after their gold medal victory.
Elsewhere, two Costa Rican pair collided for bronze. Gilberto Villegas/Alexander Villegas of CRC-1 defeated Esteban Escobar/Jose Suarez of CRC-2 and secured the bronze-ware. They posted 2-1 (21-17, 26-28, 15-11) victory over their country mates.
The 12th Central American Men’s Beach Volleyball Championship had an amazing run from July 20-22. At the end of the competition, teams settled down in the following manner:
