Men’s medal matches of 2012 Asian Beach Games – Volleyball News
The medal matches of men’s beach volleyball competition at the 3rd edition of Asian Beach Games took place on Monday, June 18.
The duos from Indonesia and Kazakhstan clashed in the final showdown of the tournament. Indonesia’s Chandra and Koko went against Diman and Alex from Kazakhstan. The Fengxiang Beach in Haiyang, China set up the field of play for the crucial matches.
The final match covered its length in just two sets, while Chandra and Koko of Indonesia emerged successful. They posted 2-0 (22-20, 21-17) win over Kazakhs and got hold of the gold medal.
The early picture of the match was quite different from the outcome as the Kazakhs jumped out of the gate and set tone for a great competition. They hit the ball from different angles and quickly earned better status on the scoreboard. In the meanwhile,
the Indonesians trailed behind and kept looking for ways to come out of the blues. However, it did not happen until the ending moments of the opening frame. Near the end of set-1 Kazakhstan displayed erratic play, which created a perfect opportunity for opponents
to finish the opening stanza with two points at 22-20.
The entire scene was exploited by a few small mistakes of Kazakhs. Nonetheless, it immensely helped Chandra-Koko of Indonesia to get their full form back. They used the competitive edge and defeated Diman-Alex in the next set as well, 21-17. It was a dramatic
end to the match but Indonesian pair took away the title.
In the bronze medal match, Kazakhstan’s Alex and Alex came into contest with Dian and Fahriansyah of Indonesia. The former tandem proved to be better in every aspect of the game and successfully managed to dismiss the opponents in straight sets. They posted
2-0 (21-13, 21-12) on board to claim the bronze-ware.
Alex-Alex got off to a good start in the match and pushed the opponents behind. With early onslaught of spikes and long cross-court shots, they added quick points and dragged the Indonesians under pressure. The Kazakh pair continued with power and convincingly
downed the rival side in first set. They closed opening set with a lead of eight points (21-13), which helped them to start the next set on a really good note.
In the second set, Indonesia felt more pressure from the opposite side and totally lost it. Kazakh duo asserted the same effort and overpowered the competitors. They claimed the second set in the similar fashion and settled for bronze-medal victory.
