Men’s round-up Day Six – French Open 2013
Many of the big seeds who were in action advanced into the proceeding round on day six at the Roland Garros 2013.
Seven-time titlist at this major clay court tournament, Rafael Nadal, stayed on the right path. He made an epic comeback from a set down to secure a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 victory against the Slovakian, Martin Klizan.
The Spanish number one commented in a courtside interview after clinching the battle, "I started the match probably with not the right intensity, with more doubts than usual. The positive thing was that I had a good reaction at
the beginning of the second, even if I didn't play fantastic. I played the way that I had to play.”
Next in queue for Nadal is the 27th seed, Fabio Fognini in the third round. The Spaniard reflected about his upcoming battle, “Tomorrow, I have a tough opponent. Fognini is a good player, [a] player who is improving
in his [Emirates ATP] Ranking, improving on his solid game. He's more serious every time. [It] will be a really tough match, and I need to play better than today."
The seventh seed, Richard Gasquet, also stole the show and progressed into the round of 32. He devastated the Polish challenger, Michal Przysiezny, with a bagel in almost one and a half hour.
The 12th seed, Tommy Haas, re-ignited his old spark to secure a spot in the third round. The German veteran edged past the American youngster, Jack Sock, in straight sets. He nudged up a 7-6(3), 6-2, 7-5 score line against
the Lincoln native in two hours and 17 minutes.
The former world number three, Nikolay Davydenko, also stayed on the right track. He easily recorded a 6-4, 7-5, 6-2 success against the Uzbekistani challenger, Denis Istomin, and advanced at this second of the four Grand Slam
events taking place in Paris, France.
The Serbian number two and the eighth seed, Janko Tipsarevic, also re-gained his strength at this event. He exited from early rounds in the past few tournament but stayed focused in his match against the former world number seven,
Fernando Verdasco. Tipsarevic battled past Verdasco with a 7-6(1), 6-1, 3-6, 6-7, 8-6 win.
There were also third round matches in the day. The 17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer eased past the 30th seed, Julien Benneteau, in straight sets. He notched up a 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 score line against the local star.
Joining Federer in the round of 16 is the fourth seed, David Ferrer. The Spaniard crushed his compatriot, Feliciano Lopez, with a 6-1, 7-5, 6-4 score line.
