Tigers Men’s team finish 8th, women’s team 4th at The Northeast Invitational 2010

The Northeast Invitational ended with the last round of its Fall season’s finale this week. The final tournament included 8 Ivy League teams along with other highly competitive teams from the Army, the Navy and Boston College. The event was held at the Shelter
Harbor, R.I and awarded the Tigers men’s team eighth place in the end.
The Par 71 golf course, handed team Columbia the first place, yet another time, while the chasers included teams Harvard and Penn. The fifth place was handed to Dartmouth, who had strived to place their name in the cream for a long time. Amidst the topping
teams, the Tigers men finished eighth.
According to the sophomore Bernie D’Amato, although they haven’t been able to perform the way they all wanted to, they will still look back at the fall season and realize that the performance wasn’t that bad. D’Amato is highly pleased with the team’s performance
and has plans on heading towards the Spring season with full zeal.
D’Amato ended his game on the 11th place tied and scored a 6 over par in the end. The sophomore was one of the leaders of his team, who was aptly followed by the senior, Eric Salazar. Salazar ended his game tied at the 16th place after carding a 7 over par.
The rest of the team included 3 juniors. Chase Lovett-Woodsum and Evan Harmeling finished their games with a score of 12 over and 13 over par, respectively while the third junior managed to display a much better game. The junior, Patrick Wasserman carded
the final result of 19 over par.
According, to Lovett-Woodsum, the weather conditions were fairly tough. The temperatures ranged between 30s and 40s while the wind speeds tended to follow the same attitude. The event held by the University of Rhode Island witnessed Woodsum scoring much
lower than the rest of the team in the tournament.
Where the men finished eighth, the women’s team grabbed the fourth place at the final tournament of the fall season. The Tigers played Harvard Tournament in a par-72 course in Bolton this week.
This is marked as the second time The Tigers have competed against their fellow league rivals. Previously, the competition was held at the Princeton Invitational in which the team finished one place above the teams from Penn, Harvard and Columbia and one
place below team Yale.
The current tournament, however, has a much different result as compared to the last time. This time, team Yale won the Tournament single handed, followed by Harvard and Penn.
Seo Hee Moon from team Harvard and Penn played a remarkable hole-in-one and thus recorded the tournaments lowest score. The female golfer has set an unofficial women’s score record after carding a 4 under par. The team finished two shots ahead of team Harvard
and 16 strokes ahead of team Penn.
Kelly Shon led the female side of The Tigers and claimed spot number 5 after carding a 6 over par. Anna Jang finished at the eighth place with a 9 over par. 2 seniors and one junior finished their game individually. The seniors Kate Scarpetta and Rachel
Blum ended at a tie for 23rd and 28th place after carding a 21 and a 24 over par. The junior Wonji Choi ended her game at the 21st position with a 17 over par.
The Tigers aimed high his season, higher than they finished and believes that the way the Ivy League teams have performed at the tournament is marvellous. The sophomore, D’Amato said that their team has excellent form and is now ready to tackle any challenge
thrown at them.
