i recently volunteered for the Michigan spacial Olympics my school host every year, and it changed my life, at first i thought i needed to talk to them like there little kids but they were just people. and they were so strong, and so incredible. and now the spacial kids that go to my school always say hi to me, even if i only talked to them for a minute, they never forget a face!

the sad part is, so many people don't talk or don't like to go around them just because they may not look like them or talk the same way, i know a lot of the volunteers only helped with the Olympics so they could get out of school for the day and it makes me sick!

people are people no matter what, and the saying is true, "don't judge a book by its cover!"

the same as I think about any group of people.  some can be wonderful and have bubbly personalities, and others can be crabby and hateful.  Some are a bit of both, like most of us probably are.

People with mental retardation are spectacularly wonderful, caring, giving, cheerful, accepting and the most loving people in the world.  I am blessed that I get to teach them and get paid for it!
