Question:

Menu Cards Examples for a Wedding Buffet???

Hi I am getting married in February. I know what I am serving and it will be Buffet Style. I asked the decorator and he said that even though it will be buffet style sometimes people put menus on the tables (as part of the decoration) and letting people know what will be available on the station. I asked because I really want to make Menu cards to put on the table.

Problem is I don't seem to find any wording suggestion or examples about how to phrase a Wedding Menu for Buffet Style.

Any suggestions?

  1. I agree with Riley. That is tacky. I have never seen this done. The decorator does not know what he is talking about and if someone did this then it was in bad taste and not proper. Now you can put tags on the food at the buffet table expecially if you have casseroles.

  2. Here is an example of what it could look like and you can actually but the paper at an office store and do them yourself.

  3. You could list them by the stations or simply

    Salads, Entrees, Side Dishes...

Congrats & best wishes.  I do like that since you're doing menu cards they're part of the table decorations.

Have you seen those cute photo holders that have the spring clips?  Something like that (if it fits with your reception theme) may be cute.

  4. I feel like I could answer this better if I knew what you were serving but there is really only two ways I can think to do it:

    Station Themes:

(This is what I am going to do. Each station will be a different type of food so the menu would look something like this...)

    Asian Station

              -Sweet and sour Chicken

              - Fried Rice

             -  Udon Noodles

    Mexican Station

             - Make your own taco

             - Chips and Salsa

    American Station

            - Prime Rib

            - Cesar Salad

            - Mashed Potatoes

    or

Core Stations (where the menu would look something like this...)

    Salad Station

            - Cesar Salad

            - Pasta Salad

            - Chinese Chicken Salad

    Meat Station

            - Prime Rib

            - Roasted Chicken

    Side Station

            - Creamed Corn

            - Mashed Potatoes

    * I think having a menu is a great idea so people know what to save room for on their plate.  It saves anyone from saying "Darn, I wish I had known there was going to be salmon...I wouldn't have got so much chicken.

    Good luck and CONGRATULATIONS!

  5. I don't think that it needs to be anything fancy, just simply list the dishes, starting with your entree(s) and then on to your side dishes. My friend had a large frame at the head of the buffett table that listed the food at the buffet, just in case you are looking for another way to do the menu thing.

  6. Hi.  Really I don't think it's that hard.  If it's one buffet then just do it up in a nice fancy font (I like the Lucinda Calligraphy font) and list the items.

    Tonight's Buffet features:

Tossed Salad with your choice of dressing

    Roasted chicken

    Ham

    Baby Red Potatoes

    Mashed Potatoes

    Mixed Vegetables

    Corn

    Jello

    Cold Pasta Salad

    etc., etc.

You could place it in a nice frame if you want and make it up on a nice colored piece of paper.

  7. I'm having a clam bake and I'm having menu cards.

I did not title my menu cards. I designed them my self. They are rectangular an long, navy blue and  beige smaller layer on top where the menu is printed on black script font. They also have a capiz shell on the very top attached with navy blue and beige ribbon. They are splendid.

Anyway, I did not put the word "menu" on it, because it's pretty much implied. We simply wrote down what is being served.

Email me so I can send you my menu card if you would like.

    Congratulations and best of luck

PS/ Just because people have "never heard of them" doesn't make them "tacky". Tacky is people that have never heard of menu cards. Some people are so ignorant!!! I'm sure you hicks were born in a barn and never been to an upscale event.
