  1. Ingredients:

Real Salmon & Ocean Fish: Fish broth, fish, chicken,WHEAT GLUTEN( **BIG FAT NO WAY**), food starch modified(**????), salmon, ocean fish, tuna, CANE SUGAR(** CATS DON'T NEED SUGAR, WTF**), chicken liver, dried EGG PRODUCT(** WHAT IS "EGG PRODUCT??**), guar gum, salt, calcium sulfate, tricalcium phosphate, sodium tripolyphosphate, titanium dioxide, natural and artificial flavors, potassium chloride, vitamins (vitamin e supplement, niacin, thiamine mononitrate, vitamin a supplement, pantothenic acid, riboflavin supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin b6), biotin, vitamin d3 supplement, vitamin b12 supplement, folic acid, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of vitamin k activity), minerals (ferrous sulfate monohydrate, zinc oxide, manganese sulfate monohydrate, copper proteinate, sodium selenite, potassium iodide), canthaxanthin color, carrageenan, choline chloride, beta carotene, magnesium oxide, sodium nitrite (to promote color retention),RED 3(**SUSPECT CANCER CAUSING AGENT**)

    nope, not a good food.

besides, it's not always WHAT the ingredients are. It can say 100% white meat chicken, but that doesn't mean it isn't rotten, cancerous diseased chicken....

meow mix, ANYTHING by meow mix is not a good food, plain and simple.

when you say "my cat won't eat"...what do you mean? don't feed the cat for 3 days, and then try the EVO.

  2. My cat is very picky too.  I have tried many wet foods (Wellness, Blue Buffalo, etc) and he refuses almost everything but Fancy Feast.  I cringe when I read the ingredients.  However, he is on Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul Adult Cat Formula (dry food) and he seems to like it.  My local pet stores do not carry the wet variety, but one does exist.  It may be worth a shot to give it a try.  I usually only feed wet food as an enjoyable snack for my cats, it is not their main food intake.  I know wet food is bad for their teeth, but dry food does not offer the wetness to help keep them hydrated and without kidney problems.  Its a toughy.  Good luck with your kitty.

  3. I'm not going to say that Meow Mix is a superior food or anything, I wouldn't know. I do feed it to my cat though. She is an indoor cat and has no health problems and is almost 9. I feed it to her because she likes it.

I hope she never develops a problem, but by now those years are coming. My sisters cat is 18 and she feeds dry Purina Cat Chow. He's feeling and looking his age, but still OK.

  4. Wow that's better than the others, still though, I'm iffy on the wheat gluten and sugar. Try EVO again. When she gets really hungry she will eventually eat it.

  5. It's not bad considering that it's MM, but there are a few ingredients I don't care for, namely sugar, wheat gluten and carageenan.

No, cats don't need sugar.  It's not going to kill them outright but it doesn't belong in their food.

The other drawback to this food is that it's all fish.  Fish is best served only 2-3 times per week.

It sounds like you could use some tips on getting your cat to try the better foods.  I see you've already found Weruva, but if you'd like to offer other good varieties, try any of these tips:

    1. Buy the best. See http://www.catinfo.org/commercialcannedf... for suggestions, and also see my blog on identifying good foods http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-ytgWjlI5e... Although you don't want to feed fishy foods more than 2-3 times per week (http://www.littlebigcat.com/index.php?ac... ), you might want to get a few. The stronger smell may be more appealing, and perhaps you could use it as a topping on other foods as well.

    2. Buy as many varieties as you can. Get different brands and different flavors. Also try different textures - some prefer mushy food, others prefer ones that are chunkier.  You just never know what's going to appeal to a cat.

    3. Offer a teaspoonful or so of the new food in a separate bowl at feeding time. Do this at every meal. The idea is that kitty will finally realize it's food and will give it a shot. By offering just a small amount, you'll avoid digestive upsets should he or she be willing to give it a try.

    4. If he tries any, note which brand/flavor it was. You may then want to focus on that brand or that flavor in other brands. But don't be fooled. The cat may eat it all up but then never want to eat it again. So before buying a case of a food that he seems to like, make sure he's going to continue going for it.

    5. You can try putting a smear of food on his nose or mouth. That'll cause him to l**k it. If he likes it, he may try more.

    6. Bribes. Crush some kibble and sprinkle it over the top. Try fish or liver flakes, parmesan cheese, a drop of soy sauce, meaty baby food (with no added onion or garlic), whatever it takes.

    7. You can run the food (in a container of course) under hot or warm water or even nuke it for a few seconds to bring it to "mouse body temperature." This may also release the scent and that may draw the cat in.

    8. Don't try starving the cat into submission. That could ultimately be fatal. You may want to cut back a bit on the regular food so that hunger may encourage him to eat, but don't force the issue. As he starts eating more canned, you will decrease the amount of kibble he's getting. But just be sure that he gets enough to eat every day.

Realize that you will waste food and money. Be patient and persistent. The results will be worth it!
