MerCruiser boat motor Tilt/Trim not working. Motor runs but is not moving up or down? Help.?

Basically what I said, we jsut put a new motor in, and its running fine, but the trim is not moving up or down.

Sounds like the reservoir is low on fluid.

Is it possible you have a broken or leaking hose.  That's where the fluid goes.  check to see if the correct level of oil is in the trim pump and that its in good conditions.

Fill the reservoir tank with mercury trim pump fluid> run up then down to bleed the system then recheck the level>

You may be low on fluid.  It has hydraulic fluid in it.

Does your trim unit have a big yellow cap on the resevoir, or a smaller s***w with a slot on it?  If it is the big yellow one, remove the cap and make sure the fluid has not gelled.  If it is still liquid, add fluid to the full mark, and run the trim up and down severel times to bleed out the air.  If it has gelled, it means someone has added the wrong type fluid, and you will have to clean the entire system, rams, lines, manifold and trim unit.  Not a job for amateurs!  If it is the older style, add 10W30 until it overflows from the fill hole, and bleed the system.  If the above fixes have no effect, you probably have a faulty pump, these can be rebuilt, but it is better to replace with new.  It'll be pricey, about a grand.  Good luck.
