Merab Jordania: I chose Vitesse Arnhem ahead of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 Alkmaar, PSG and Standard Liege – Eredivisie news
Merab Jordania, the former Georgian footballer, bought the financially troubled http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vitesse-c40905 Arnhem last year. The 50-year-old has now revealed that he had several options to choose from but he opted for Vitesse in the end.
The 50-year-old is a close friend of Russian billionaire, Roman Abramovich, the Chelsea FC owner. The former Georgian footballer is enormously famous in his native country, as he has remained the president of Georgian football federation for seven years
(1998-2005).
The wealthy businessman loves football and revealed that he had several offers from top clubs which he could have bought, but he preferred the outfit from Arnhem.
“In the Netherlands, AZ Alkmaar. In France, Paris Saint-Germain and Lens. In Belgium, Standard Liege. There was a club in Denmark too, but my preference was Vitesse”, Jordania was quoted as saying to the media.
He then went on to reveal that he thought about AZ for some time. To achieve something, one has to start from the beginning, the 50-year-old believes.
“I thought about AZ, but Vitesse finally seemed better. The club was devastated. Everything there was to zero. That to me was more interesting. AZ had a good team with a good structure. However, if you want to accomplish something, you better start from
bottom”, the 50-year-old added.
The Georgian national admitted that he loves the football played in Netherlands and revealed that he has always been a fan of Dutch football.
“Ever since my youth, I have been a fan of Dutch football. Ajax in the seventies, the Dutch team in the seventies”, Jordania concluded.
The Georgian has the ambition to lift Vitesse from the bottom of the Dutch top flight towards European domination in the coming years. He has made his intentions clear to spend large amounts in the ongoing summer transfer market to forge a title winning
squad for the coming seasons.
