1. Transit? 30mpg? Reliable? Absolute ****, I have two - a 54 reg 115/350 that averages 19mpg, I've had it since new, limited to 56mph so I can't thrash it, has had wheel bearings, propshaft bearings, oil seals, engine management unit (£2,500), new tyres & brakes every six months on average, etc., etc., it's only done 135,000km. (On a tacho, hence the km).

I've also got a SWB '08 reg that I've had for three weeks, lovely, all the kit, 34mpg empty, but still a really cheap finish inside.

An old Merc 308 is like a tractor to drive, rough, noisy, but will return over 30mpg & should go on for ever. Parts are cheap & easily available.

There are some Merc Sprinters on Autotrader for under £1500, I'd look at one of those or a VW - best reliability & fuel economy.

  2. I'd just go for a transit mate. Ledgendery to drive 30mpg and dam reilable. Parts come from ford.
