Mercedes AMG has set off the latest FIA crackdown twirl of never-ending ‘blown diffuser’ tale.
In the midst of last week during the second pre-season test held at Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona, after an ambiguity was discovered in the standard electronic software, it was reported that Mercedes and Renault-motorised teams would need to make a pull.
Mercedes team principal, Ross Brawn expressed that the since the FIA rules for the upcoming 2012 Formula 1 season are quite ambiguous, the teams would not stop making the most out of the exhaust blown aerodynamics as they understand the technology to a great
extent and can manage to dodge the new rules because of the implications and ambiguities.
Furthermore, every team had an eye on Mercedes since Brawn had made such remarks about the new rules of FIA. However, all the teams have been dealing with the ban in their own way for instance many teams have been seen doing angling of the exhaust gases
to the specific measurements of the car to increase the downforce.
However, the FIA has cracked down on the issue of engine exhaust blowing for the purposes of the aerodynamics for the forthcoming season but there are many rumours regarding the enclosure that some of the teams have planned out the ways to minimise the impact
of the restriction.
Furthermore, Auto Motor und Sport of Germany has reported that it was the engineers of Mercedes team who found out the ambiguity in the restriction by the FIA and utilised the standard electronic software in order to maximise the off-choke exhaust blowing
effect to gain increased downforce.
“The FIA has responded by rewriting the software,” read the report.
The report further stated that Mercedes was right about the loopholes in the new rules as expressed by Brawn earlier and further said that it could only be exploited at the cost of the probable damage to the engine of the car and striking fuel consumption.
“We have erred on the safe side,” an FIA source is quoted as saying.
Moreover, Raymond Blacafort wrote in Spain’s Mundo Deportivo that the exhaust of 2012 Red Bull Racing’s car was sounding quite strange in chicane in Barcelona during the last week.
