Mercedes AMG boss Ross Brawn criticises exhaust designs of rival teams – Formula 1 news
Mercedes AMG team principal, Ross Brawn has criticized the exhaust design of the contenders’ cars after signifying that they have not followed the rules.
In the course of the debate over the F-duct design which gives boost in car’s top pace when the Drag Reduction System (DRS) is turned on, Brawn expressed that to single-out only his team for the examination was quite wrong.
“Every year that I can remember, there is debate and argument,” said Brawn about his car being at the centre of paddock gossip in Australia. “And probably, to be honest, what we have done is taken the spotlight off the exhaust systems that people are running
because they are nowhere near what was intended by the FIA.”
Moreover, he said that several cars had the exhaust blown diffusers even after the restriction by the FIA.
“The FIA probably told you all that we were not going to have exhaust blown diffusers any more. We thought we were not going to have them. But several cars have got them,” he said.
Furthermore, he said that there is a very strong competition in Formula 1 where every contender prepares itself for the best.
Despite faced by the issue of protest from the rivals over the legitimacy of the design of the car’s rear wing, Brawn ruled out keeping the same objection against the design of others.
Mercedes had quite a dependable pre-season testing programme this year as compared to the preceding one in which it was not able to test run the car before the first race.
Moreover, the design of this year’s car W03 had been considered as one of the most competitive and innovative design which had also come into the criticism of the rivals for instance Eric Boullier, the team principal of Lotus threatened to challenge the
results of the qualifying over the device of the Brackley-based team.
Nevertheless, Charlie Whiting, the technical delegate expressed that he believed Mercedes’ design to be legitimate. Additionally, Martin Whitmarsh, the team principal of McLaren also affirmed that it was legal.
Besides, after the struggling first race in which Michael Schumacher was retired and Nico Rosberg ended at 12th place, Brawn has said that their car is much more competent.
