Mercedes AMG driver Nico Rosberg says they have made big steps as a team – Formula 1 news
Mercedes AMG Petronas driver Nico Rosberg says that the new Mercedes W03 signifies a big step forward which the team has made.
After doing some private testing, the team launched the new car at the start of this week and covered 399 laps during four days from Tuesday to Friday, in the second Formula 1 pre-season test held at Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona.
Rosberg said that he was very delighted with the performance of the car during the test and believed that the results would prove out to be very productive for the team in the forthcoming 2012 Formula 1 season.
However, he expressed that there was still a room for improvement but the team was encouraged and going in the right direction than the last season.
“We want to win so we are definitely not there yet. But we are making progress and that's really good to see. The team is going in the right direction and also just in terms of the car build, the work that they've done at the factory is so much better than
in previous years. Everything fits together well, it's very clean and it's performing as expected. From there we can see that we've made big steps as a team,” said Rosberg.
Rosberg believed that the pace at which the team was progressing was enough to make him satisfied and motivated.
Furthermore, he said that it would take some time for him to win the title so rather than feeling downbeat he should focus on taking the team ahead in the championship.
“It is not frustrating; it is a great motivation to be part of this push that is happening at this team,” added Rosberg.
In addition, the team principal, Ross Brawn expressed that the new car would not be able to bring victories for the team in the start of the upcoming season.
Nevertheless, he said that he was not concerned with it because the team was quite motivated from the results of the test and would make the significant preparations to improve the performance of the car for the forthcoming season starting in Melbourne.
