Mercedes AMG drivers will attend DTM opener – Formula 1 news
Mercedes AMG pair of drivers, Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg, is going to join their counterparts of Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) at the season opener of touring car racing series which is to be held at Germany this weekend.
Rosberg will be in 1995 Mercedes-Benz W196 on Saturday while the seven-time world champion, Schumacher will be behind the wheel of W03 on Sunday at Hockenheim.
Furthermore, Rosberg expressed that he feels very happy on his return to Hockenheim after winning the third race of the season at Shanghai International Circuit in China.
It will be important to mention that it is the first win of the Brackley based team since 1955 and young German driver’s decision regarding the choice of his car at DTM opening was made in connection with the victory of Juan Manuel Fangio in the 1995 Italian
Grand Prix in W196.
“I am absolutely delighted to be returning to Hockenheim as a Grand Prix winner,” said the young German. “Last year, I was able to drive a classic Silver Arrow on the famous Nurburgring Nordschleife, so now I'm really looking forward to climbing into the
cockpit of Juan Manuel Fangio's phenomenal W196 streamliner from Monza in 1955 and driving a few laps at Hockenheim.”
On the other hand, Schumacher said that he is looking forward to the DTM opening which will be his first visit there in the past two decades.
“I'm especially looking forward to the chance to give the fans a taste of a Formula One Silver Arrow in action. This will be my first visit to a DTM race in 20 years,” he said.
At present, Mercedes are standing at fifth place in the constructors’ championship with 37 points and are ahead of Sauber-Ferrari.
Besides, the team principal, Ross Brawn has said that they are aiming at making the necessary developments and essential preparations so as to improve the pace of the car for the season ahead in order to fight for the championship title.
Over and above, they have a great potential to claim the title with their innovative DRS-activated F-duct device of the car and a perfect blend of talented and experienced drivers.
