Mercedes AMG team principal Ross Brawn says team is chasing performance – Formula 1 news
Mercedes-AMG Petronas team principal, Ross Brawn says that the team has started to chase performance of its new car W03 after getting the results from the second Formula 1 pre-season test held at Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona.
Mercedes missed the first test at the Jerez circuit, Spain and launched the new car rather late than its contenders but still managed to cover over 2,000 km with the car in private tests by the end of the first test which reflected quite an improvement in
the performance of the team than the previous year.
“We're in a much better position than we were last year. We have done over 2000km and we had done less than half of that at this stage last year. I think people can see that we have got something to work with,” said Brawn.
Moreover, Brawn expressed that the results from the test had proven out to be very productive and the overall performance of the car was quite acceptable as no major issues concerned the team after the test sessions.
“The important thing is that we don't appear to have any core problems, we don't appear to have any major issues. It seems okay and the car functions all right. Maybe something will come up that we don't know about at the moment, but it seems to work okay
and that's great because we're now starting work on the performance,” said Brawn.
Brawn said that it would be too early to make final judgements as the team may still face some issues which would definitely hinder the team performance and would be challenging for the victories during the start of the forthcoming 2012 Formula 1 season.
Furthermore, he said that the team had good drivers and there is no doubt that they would perform well during the upcoming season but the team would need a car, competent enough to match the performance of its rivals on the track.
Nevertheless, he asserted that the team had made some remarkable progress so far which would prove out to be quite motivating even if not enough for achieving the victory in the forthcoming season.
