Mercedes-Benz hope for perfect long-term partnership with Williams – Formula 1 news
Mercedes motorsport boss, Toto Wolff has said that they are hoping for a perfect long-term partnership with Williams after their engine deal was confirmed this week.
The Silver Arrows have recently signed a new deal with the Grove based squad to supply engine from the 2014 Formula 1 season onwards.
In the next season, the British team will be the 4th contender that will use the German company’s engine in its car alongside Force India, McLaren and Mercedes itself.
Wolff has expressed that they are positively looking forward to have a long lasting relationship with Williams in the future.
There are going to be some radical changes in the technical regulations by the FIA in the next season. However, the Austrian has said that they have full confidence on the performance of their engine.
“The proud heritage of Williams and the company's commitment to technological excellence make it a perfect long term partner for Mercedes-Benz under new powertrain regulations,” said Wolff.
“It is a win-win situation for both HPP [Mercedes-Benz High Performance Powertrains] and Williams, which will ensure HPP is able to supply at least three teams on a long term basis under new regulations and could open interesting new perspectives for technology
transfer,” he added.
In addition, the 41-year-old said that they are aiming to achieve more success in the coming year with their new partners in the sport.
He said, “We look forward to enjoying much success together over the coming years.”
Andy Cowell, managing director of Mercedes AMG HPP, has said that their new deal has provided them with long term stability for the next few years.
“A further positive is that this new agreement provides Mercedes-Benz with long term stability of supplying our works team,” Cowell said.
He also said that they are targeting to provide competitive engines to all their partners in the next year and are expecting at least two partners from the 2015 F1 season onwards.
The technical rules and regulations are going to change radically in the next season and it will be extremely thrilling to see how all the competitors perform with their new engines.
