Mercedes GP admit they cannot win 2011 Italian Grand Prix with their current car – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP team principal Ross Brawn has recently admitted that they cannot win the upcoming Italian Grand Prix with its 2011 car.
Brawn said that they are nowhere near the pace of the top running teams of the sport including Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull Racing.
Michael Schumacher also agreed with his team boss and stated that the team is not aiming for victories at least in this year.
“I don't think we have a reason to talk about victories at the moment. We'll have to postpone this until next year,” said the German.
Ferrari’s Felipe Massa on the other hand recently claimed that the team is looking very quick at Monza as a result of which they might be one of the front-running teams this coming weekend.
Mercedes GP’s car is expected to be a very fast car on fast racetracks and since Monza is the fastest track on the Formula 1 calendar, it seems that they might be able to use their Kinetic Energy Recovery System, Drag Reduction System and engine to the best
in order to make the most of this coming weekend.
Jenson Button from McLaren also claims that Mercedes GP were very strong on the long straight of the Spa-Francorchamps for the Belgian Grand Prix which proves that they have a very fast car for fast-paced tracks.
“The Mercedes was very quick in a straight line at Spa. I'm hoping that was their Monza wing, because if not they are going to be very, very fast here,” said Button.
Nevertheless, one has to admit that the fans expected a lot from Mercedes but they failed to deliver as they are currently the best mid-running team of the season but not the best overall team yet.
The team is performing very effectively at each race with double point finishes on most occasions but that is not their aim. They want to become a race winning and probably a championship winning team in order to enable Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg
to perform at their best.
