Mercedes GP announce 2011 chassis' inauguration date
The German team Mercedes GP has confirmed the launch of its 2011 Formula One car on February 1st, 2011. The team has decided to unveil the car, MGP W02 in Valencia, just ahead of the first pre-season test session. The test is scheduled at the same date, while the opening ceremony will take place in front of the team's garage at the Valencia Track.
Most of the teams have announced the launch of their cars a day before the practice session, i.e. January 31st, 2011. However, Force India and McLaren have decided to bring forward their last season’s interims in the first session, while the 2011’s cars will be inaugurated ahead of the second practice session. The 2nd pre-season test will be held on February 10th at Jerez track, Spain.
Ferrari is expected to launch its car ahead of all other teams. The Italian squad declared earlier this week to unveil its package in Valencia on January 28th, as the team has already put together one of its chassis.
There are high hopes associated with Ferrari’s 2011 challenger. The squad was the first team to halt development work on its 2010 car previous season and start constructing next year’s chassis. As the Formula One caravan returned home from the summer break last year, the team boss Ross Brawn, declared that both the drivers’ as well as the constructor’s championship was already out of their reach; hence they shifted their attention on building an improved car for the upcoming season.
After experiencing an abortive 2010 season, both the team drivers, Schumacher and Nico Rosberg are looking forward to a successful 2011 Formula One campaign. Since they had the highest budget for their new car, the Ferrari management believes that its drivers will be able to beat the forerunners of last season; the Red Bull, Ferrari and McLaren.
Moreover, the team driver and the seven times world champion, Michael Schumacher, proclaimed earlier this month that he is adamant to bag most of race wins and podiums. He explained that he has returned to the sport with a 3-year project and is determined to bag his eighth championship before bidding a final farewell to the sport.
