Mercedes GP boss Ross Brawn says their car lacks strength to compete with strong teams – Formula 1
Mercedes GP boss Ross Brawn has admitted that their MGP-W02 car does not have much strength to compete with strong teams including Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull in the ongoing 2011 Formula 1 season.
Brawn added that Mercedes’ 2011 car is still unable to give its excellent results in the ongoing season. He also said that his team is ‘technically’ very weak compared to other competitive teams in the ongoing season.
He discussed about his car and said, “The reason we are not as successful as we would like is that the team is not physically strong enough. We do not have the technical strength to compete with Red Bull, Ferrari or McLaren, but we are working on it and
that's happening right now.”
The team boss went on to mention, “These things go step by step, season by season. For next year's car we will have a much stronger team than now. When we made the decision on the layout, we had information that led us to believe it was right. In retrospect,
we would probably decide differently.”
He added that the team driver Michael Schumacher is a very strong driver in Formula 1, but he is still unable to deliver his best performance on the grid with their 2011 Mercedes car. Brawn believes if they provide him a perfect car, he will definitely give
positive results to the team.
The team kicked off to disappointing start in the season, as their both drivers Nico Rosberg and Schumacher were not able to show their race potential on the grid due to the lack of pace of their cars.
Mercedes driver Rosberg seemed to be improving in the previous races of the 2011 season. Despite having issues with his car, he successfully moved on the grid and worked hard. On the other hand, the seven-time world champion was unable to impress until the
Canadian Grand Prix where he finished fourth, marginally behind Mark Webber of Red Bull.
After a good race weekend in Montreal, the team is expecting a podium finish from Schumacher in the upcoming Valencia Grand Prix which is scheduled to be held on June 26, 2011 in Europe.
