Mercedes GP boss Ross Brawn says they have ambitious plans for their 2011 car – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP team boss Ross Brawn has said that they have set ambitious plans for the further development of their new car for the 2011 Formula 1 season, MGP-W02.
Brawn informed that those plans will be put in action at the upcoming race weekend, where he hopes Mercedes’ upgrades will bring better results.
He said, “We've got a new aero package for Barcelona, some things we're doing on the suspension so I'm confident we'll move forward. The last couple of races have been a bit more encouraging, but we haven't quite got everything together yet. But I'm optimistic
we're going to move forward in Barcelona.”
Mercedes kicked off the 2011 season on a poor note, as their both drivers Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg struggled in the opening two races in Australia and Malaysia. However, the last two races in China and Turkey proved positive for Rosberg, as he
successfully reduced his gap from the front-running drivers of the ongoing season.
Mercedes believe that the seven-time world champion Schumacher will fight back on the grid, despite having a disappointing start to the season.
Brawn also discussed Schumacher’s progress in races. He said that he was a very strong driver in Formula 1 when he won his five consecutive world championships with Ferrari.
The boss added, “[There's no difference] in his approach, not in his commitment, not in his ability, but obviously the results aren't coming at the moment, but we haven't had the best car. I think that when we can get the cars performing at the top level
we're going to surprise a few people.”
Despite Schumacher’s disappointing performance in the season, the team provides him its full backing for the next races of the term, as they believe that he is still capable enough to manage podium finishes.
After the recent Turkish GP, there were again rumours about Schumacher that his time in the sport is nearing an end, as he failed to live up to his team’s expectations.
All the teams have arrived at the venue for the preparation of the season’s fifth race, scheduled to be held in Barcelona on May 22, 2011.
