Mercedes GP driver Michael Schumacher confirms he will race in 2012 season – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP driver Michael Schumacher has recently confirmed that he will race in the 2012 Formula 1 season.
Schumacher also said that he has set a goal of podium finishes on the grid for the next season and that he will complete his three-year contract with his current team that will end in 2012.
The 42-year-old driver is at the 10th place in the 2011 Formula 1 drivers’ championship with 32 points. There is a massive gap of points between him and the current leader, Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel at the moment. However, Schumacher
mentioned that he is aiming to win his eighth F1 title in 2012.
The seven-time world champion said, “I'll certainly be racing next year that is definite. We will have to see how things develop and how much energy and fun is still there.  It would be presumptuous if one expects us to fight for the title next year, at
the moment we are too far behind.”
The Petronas-sponsored team is happy with their 2011 drivers’ line-up of Schumacher and Nico Rosberg. They believe their drivers can perform on the grid in a decent manner if Mercedes provide them with a competitive car.
Both the Germans are still unable to finish their races in the top three positions in the 2011 Formula 1 season. They blamed the lack of MGP-W02 car’s pace for their unsatisfactory results so far.
On the other hand, Mercedes’ Head of Group Research Thomas Weber has said that the team needs some time to be back on the grid.
He stated, “We need a little longer to get to the top, but time is necessary. And we on the board will give that time.”
In the 2011 Hungarian Grand Prix, Schumacher retired from the Grand Prix due to a gearbox issue with his car. His teammate Rosberg really worked hard throughout the race and made a lot of struggle during his run. He started the 11th round
of the season from the seventh place and ended up in the ninth spot.
Let’s see how both drivers Rosberg and Schumacher manage their races in the last eight rounds of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
