Mercedes GP driver Michael Schumacher dissatisfied with Valencia GP result – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP driver Michael Schumacher has said that he is not satisfied with his 17th place finish in the European Grand Prix.
He also said that he was expecting a close finish to the top runners in Valencia after a positive finish in the previous Canadian Grand Prix.
Schumacher discussed his clash with Renault’s Vitaly Petrov and said that he accepted the blame of his contact with Petrov during the Valencia Grand Prix.
The seven-time world champion had a clash with the Renault driver when he rejoined the Valencia Street Circuit after taking a pitstop. That contact damaged the MGP-W02 car’s front wing and after that, he was forced to complete full lap with a damaged wing
before taking another pit.
Schumacher lost much of his time during that and lost a chance of a good finish at the Valencia racetrack.
The 42-year-old driver talked about that collision and said, “The outcome was decided after lap 15 when I slid into Petrov and lost the points I could perhaps have achieved. Our race pace should have allowed me to finish more or less where I started, but
that is only speculation after the incident.”
The team driver went on to mention, “I saw Petrov quite late, even though I was aware that he was coming, and tried to brake as late as possible and go round the corner with him. But when I wanted to draw back, I locked the front wheel and slipped into him,
which was clearly my mistake.”
The Petronas-sponsored team was unhappy with Schumacher’s performance, because they were hoping for a podium finish from him at the Valencia Street Circuit.
Despite his performance in Europe, Schumacher is expecting a successful race weekend at the Silverstone racetrack.
Apart from that, his teammate Nico Rosberg had a trouble-free race in Europe and ended up at the seventh place for the team.
Rosberg struggled for his best finish until the end of race, but due to lack of his car’s pace, he could not close his gap from the top runners.
After a disappointing European Grand Prix, the Mercedes team is still expecting for positive upcoming race weekends.
