Mercedes GP driver Michael Schumacher looking for pole place in
Monaco GP – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP driver Michael Schumacher said he is looking forward to a pole place in the Monaco Grand Prix after a successful run in the Qualifying round on Saturday, May 28, 2011.
The 42-year-old driver had a poor start to the current race weekend, as his MGP-W02 car crashed in the last laps of first practice session on Thursday. However, he took part in second practice session after his car was repaired, where he successfully finished
his practice run on the grid with a perfect machine.
The German started his qualifying round with hopes of securing the pole for the race and looked quite good in Q1 and Q2. However, the Sergio Perez accident during the closing laps of Q3 hampered his pace for the podium.
The seven-time world champion discussed his qualifying run and said, “From the running we have had so far, it would be pretty optimistic to think about it but then Monaco is Monaco, and it has its own rules. With the strategy here, the start can be vital
and that is what we are going to play on to make it possible.”
The Petronas-sponsored team is quite happy with their driver’s progress in the Monaco GP race weekend. Despite his crash in the practice session, Schumacher was confident for the race day.
Mercedes boss Ross Brawn believes the race day will surprise the viewers and also, the Grand Prix will play out as a fairly standard race on May 29, 2011 in Monaco.
Brawn said, “I have to say the tyres are pretty consistent and I think you are going to see fewer pitstops in the race than we have been used to in the last few races. That is in some ways a shame, as high tyre degradation meant we would have had a lot of
action in the race.”
The team has predicted fewer pitstops for the Monaco race, as they did not find much degradation of tyres in the practice sessions and during the qualifying round.
Schumacher is hopeful for the podium position in Monaco Grand Prix. Let’s see how he fares on Sunday.
