Mercedes GP driver Michael Schumacher pleased with 2011 Indian Grand Prix results – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP driver Michael Schumacher is pleased with his 2011 Indian Grand Prix results.
Schumacher said that he is delighted with his maximum possible results in the end of the Indian race, held on Sunday, October 30 at the recently unveiled Buddh International Circuit.
The seven-time world champion started the race from the 11th position on the grid and after battling it out with their rivals, he ended up in the fifth spot in the end of the Grand Prix.
Schumacher was 65.4 seconds off the pace of the race winner Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel and finished the Indian race behind Vettel’s teammate Mark Webber, who ended up in the fourth spot.
The German talked about his race performance in India and commented, “At the start, everything worked out according to my strategy as I deliberately didn't want to use KERS in the first two corners and save it for the long straight where I knew that I could
make up some positions. In the second stint, I managed to maintain my tyres so I could stay out longer and that was enough for fifth place.”
He went on to mention, “What's really important at the moment is that we keep pushing and trying to improve, and that is what we achieved today.”
The 42-year-old driver further added that he is happy about the Indian race, as they achieved the maximum that they could hope for and as a team they maximised their potential during the race.
In addition, the Petronas-sponsored team driver stated that the fifth and sixth places are a great result for Mercedes GP team. Moreover, he said, on top of that, their MGP-W02 car was very nicely sorted for the race and that it supported him a lot throughout
the Grand Prix.
His teammate Nico Rosberg came at the sixth place on the final Indian race classifications.
After completing 17 rounds of the 2011 Formula 1 season, Schumacher is placed at the eighth place with 70 points in the drivers’ championship, while Rosberg is sitting at the seventh position with 75 points in the standings at the moment.
Let’s see how both of the drivers perform in the last two rounds of the ongoing season following their positive Indian race.
