Mercedes GP driver Nico Rosberg dominates first practice session of 2011 Canadian Grand Prix
Mercedes GP driver Nico Rosberg scored the fastest time of the first free practice session of the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix on Friday.
The reigning world champion and current championship leader Sebastian Vettel crashed as a result of which he was unable to continue for the rest of the session.
However, Sebastian is not the only driver to crash at the famous final chicane of the track as even drivers like Michael Schumacher, Jacques Villeneuve and Jenson Button have crashed there as well in the past.
Nevertheless, it was a 90-minute session under low grip conditions as a result of which, the cars were struggling to get some grip at the rear end of their respective cars under both acceleration and braking.
Vettel scored just 8 laps before his crash while his teammate on the other hand had a pretty disappointing session as well as he scored the 12th fastest lap of the session.
Fernando Alonso was looking pretty strong as he scored the 2nd fastest lap which was around 6 tenths of a second short of Nico Rosberg’s fastest time. He was followed by Michael Schumacher and Felipe Massa in the timesheets of the session which
was quite surprising as both of these drivers have been struggling to keep up with the pace of the top running drivers.
The two McLaren drivers scored 5th and 6th places in the timesheets with Jenson Button in 5th and Lewis Hamilton in 6th.
Other than that, Lotus Renault GP also had a pretty disappointing session as Nick Heidfeld scored the 9th fastest time while Vitaly Petrov scored the 14th fastest time even though the team has been hoping for much better results this
weekend.
However, it was quite surprising to see Paul di Resta- the test driver of Force India and Nico Hulkenberg as the 8th and 10th fastest drivers of the session respectively as Force India have been struggling to perform up to the mark
up until now.
