Mercedes GP driver Nico Rosberg says their car will suit Spa-Francorchamps – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg has recently stated that the team’s car will suit the Spa-Francorchamps where the upcoming Belgian Grand Prix is expected to take place this coming weekend on August 28, 2011.
“Spa is probably one of my two favourite circuits on the Formula One calendar, along with Suzuka in Japan. It's not only one of the most challenging tracks that we race at, but it's also great fun to drive a Formula One car there. The circuit layout has
many high-speed areas so it should suit our car well,” he said.
Rosberg has been performing much better than his teammate Michael Schumacher in the 2011 Formula 1 season and it is quite disappointing for the seven-time world champion as he was expecting some great results with Mercedes after his return.
Nevertheless, both of the team drivers got a sufficient amount of time off from Formula 1 and after the summer break, they will be hoping for some improvements in the car’s performance.
“With the two-week shutdown, there has been limited opportunity to develop the car since the last two races in Germany and Hungary, a situation which of course applies to everyone. However, we will be working hard to make the most of the weekend, and look
forward to an exciting countdown to the end of the season,” he added.
Mercedes GP are currently in 4th place in the constructors’ standings which is extremely disappointing for the team as they are way off the pace of the top running teams once again this year.
The team vowed to develop a race winning car for the 2011 Formula 1 season but failed to do so as Red Bull Racing, McLaren and Ferrari really out did themselves this year as a result of which, teams like Mercedes and Lotus Renault GP are way behind in terms
of statistics and pace.
Nevertheless, the team is still trying its best to learn as much as it can from these experiences as they are hoping of making a much better car for the 2012 Formula 1 season.
