Mercedes GP driver Nico Rosberg to test Mercedes DTM car in a demonstration run – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP driver Nico Rosberg has said that he is going to drive a Mercedes DTM (German Touring Car Masters) car in a demonstration run during the series’ opening round this weekend.
“As a racing driver, it's great to be able to drive different cars and broaden my experience - you always learn something,” Rosberg said.
It is believed that this is going to be Rosberg’s first proper run in a DTM car. The German has been the centre of attention for the Mercedes GP fans as he has been performing much better than his teammate Michael Schumacher ever since the 2010 Formula 1
season started.
“Although it's a tin-top, the AMG Mercedes C-Class is a serious racing machine. I'll be treating it with respect on my first drive but I'm also looking forward to seeing what it can do, and to discovering the differences compared to my Formula One car,”
he added.
Nico has previously taken part in support car races of this series due to which he rose through the ranks of the single-seater championships in his country during the early stages of his career.
“I never had the chance of driving a DTM car, to date - apart from the few metres when driving DTM Champion Paul Di Resta to the winners' party in Stuttgart, at the end of the 2010 season,” said the German driver.
He added that he is now getting used to the environment at DTM. Rosberg has been a part of various Formula BMW Junior and Formula 3 races which were a part of the DTM support program.
The young German admires and enjoys this form of racing mainly due to its unique atmosphere and the fact that the crowd is quite spectacular during the events.
Rosberg gave his best performance of the 2011 Formula 1 season at the Chinese Grand Prix where he led the race for a noticeable amount of time but due to a poor race strategy, he finished in 5th place ahead of his teammate Michael Schumacher who
finished 8th.
