Mercedes GP driver Nico Rosberg wants a rainy 2011 German Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP driver Nico Rosberg has said that he is hoping for a rainy 2011 German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring circuit as he believes that the team can score some good results if luck is by their side.
Rain makes racing quite unpredictable and Rosberg is hoping to capitalise on it if that happens.
“So far we do not have a really top car but the weather could be a chance for us to do a bit better,” Rosberg told the media.
The young German has been driving really well for his team as he is performing much better than the seven-time former world champion Michael Schumacher. Rosberg is currently in 7th place in the drivers’ standings with 40 points while Schumacher
is currently in 10th place with just 28 points.
The team was hoping of becoming one of the top running teams of the sport in the 2011 Formula 1 season but it seems that their chances of performing up to the mark were hampered by the progress of McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull Racing who produced much faster
cars.
Mercedes GP are yet to score their first podium position since 2010 and it seems that their chances of scoring one this year are dependent on luck since their car is not fast enough.
Since the German Grand Prix is going to be more like the team’s home race as both of its drivers are Germans, they must be hoping for at least a double point finish with their best result for this season.
“The weather (at the circuit) can turn in a matter of moments, you can have all the seasons in one afternoon,” he said.
The German Grand Prix is going to be held at the Nurburgring circuit after a two-year break. In 2009, Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing won the race while his teammate Sebastian Vettel finished in second place.
According to the weather report, rain is expected to hit the track almost throughout this week as a result of which, Rosberg and Mercedes GP are optimistic about the upcoming race weekend.
