Mercedes GP driver Nico Rosberg’s performance in the 2011 Formula 1 season so far
Nico Rosberg, who was the GP2 Series driver in the past, is currently driving for Mercedes GP team in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
The German seemed to make improvements in terms of performance race-by-race and he is performing well for his team from the last few races of the ongoing season.
The Petronas-sponsored team driver made his debut in Formula 1 racing in 2006, where he drove for the AT&T Williams’ team. He spent four years with Williams in the past and learnt all various aspects of the sport by staying with them.
At the end of the 2009 Formula 1 season, Rosberg announced that he is leaving Williams. Meanwhile, Mercedes GP Petronas confirmed Rosberg as team’s first driver for the 2010 Formula 1 season.
He drove with his teammate Michael Schumacher throughout the 2010 Formula 1 season. The German scored 142 points over the season and ended his debut season with Mercedes at the seventh place.
After successfully finishing the 2011 pre-season test session on the grid, Rosberg took part in the ongoing season with hopes of getting more from the initial races of the season.
The 2005 GP2 Series champion, Rosberg had a below par start to the 2011 Formula 1 season, as he failed to complete his first race of the season in Australia. He retired from the Australian Grand Prix after completing 22 laps due to an accident.
In the Malaysian Grand Prix, the 26-year-old driver made good progress during the qualifying round and secured ninth place for the Sepang race. He finished his Malaysian race at the 12th place after struggling on the new 2011 Pirelli tyres.
After the Sepang race, Rosberg impressed his viewers and team in the Chinese Grand Prix by taking fifth place. The Shanghai race results of Rosberg were quite satisfactory for the team. After that, the team made several changes and developments in their
MGP-W02 car for the next race weekends.
The qualifying round of the Turkish Grand Prix proved as lucky for Rosberg, as he successfully secured his third place for the Istanbul race. It was the best qualifying round of the team driver in the ongoing season.
After starting his Turkish race from the third place on the opening grid he ended up in the fifth spot after struggling for his best finish at the Istanbul Park racetrack.
Rosberg could not make too much progress during the Spanish Grand Prix due to an unsupportive role of his car. He completed 65 laps and finished his race in the seventh spot at the Circuit de Catalunya.
The German was quite slow during the Monaco Grand Prix, as he was busy and developed understanding with the sets of supersoft and soft compounds by Pirelli.
Rosberg again finished at the 11th place in the Canadian Grand Prix after the Monaco race.
The Mercedes GP driver bounced back on the grid in the European Grand Prix, where he finished his race at the seventh place after starting from the same position on the grid.
The sets of soft and medium compounds were used for the first time in the ongoing season at the British Grand Prix. Rosberg made a lot of struggle on these compounds and finally finished his race in the sixth spot.
In the next German Grand Prix, Rosberg was again at the seventh place and in the Hungarian Grand Prix he ended up in the ninth spot after a close fight with Toro Rosso drivers, Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari.
Let’s see how Rosberg performs in the remainder of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
