Mercedes GP driver Rosberg hopeful of putting up a better show in Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1
Mercedes GP driver Nico Rosberg is hopeful of putting up a better show in the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix that is scheduled to take place on June 12, 2011.
Rosberg also mentioned that he wants to forget the Monaco Grand Prix, as it did not go well for him. He said after his recent positive performances in the season, he was hoping to do better in Monaco and finish on podium, but he could not do so.
The German took a good start in the Monaco Grand Prix, where he finished his practice sessions strongly on Thursday. However, the final practice session was the worst for him, as he suffered an accident during his run.
He started his qualifying round with hopes of securing pole place for the race. However, his MGP-W02 car did not support his ambitions and he grabbed the 7th position on the starting grid.
During the Monaco Grand Prix last Sunday, Rosberg seemed uncompetitive among the strong rivals. He struggled for his podium finish, and was two laps slower than the race winner, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull and completed his run in the 11th spot.
Rosberg said, “Fantastic race start - rocketed off, fifth place after the start. [Mark] Webber was in front of me and my attitude was like 'Webber, get out of the way now because I'm coming through...' So I was quite positive at that time.”
He further added, “The team did an amazing job. Even Michael [Schumacher]'s mechanics were on my car. It was just absolute mayhem and they put it together, unbelievably, in 97 minutes. Even at the beginning of qualifying there were still some missing parts,
and 10 minutes later it was ready to go and off I went.”
The 25-year-old driver told the reporters that the team was quite disappointed with Schumacher’s retirement from the race, as they were expecting a lot from him.
Rosberg has ignored his performance in the Monaco Grand Prix and said that he is hoping to do well in the remainder of the season.
