Mercedes GP driver Schumacher hoping for success at Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP driver Michael Schumacher has said that he is confident of success at the Canadian Grand Prix since he has already relished success at the Montreal track seven times in his career.
He also mentioned that he is very excited about the double Drag Reduction System zone. The International Automobile Federation (FIA) has allowed the teams that they can use the DRS twice in every lap of the Montreal race on both the front and back straights
of the Canadian race circuit.
The 42-year-old driver discussed the circuit and added, “The circuit itself is very much a stop-and-go scenario with much of the focus on top speed and braking. Montreal is a great city to visit and the Canadian Grand Prix is always one of those races where
it feels like the whole city gets involved and creates a really nice atmosphere.”
The seven-time world champion further added that he cannot predict how his car will perform during the Montreal race weekend. He believes that the new upgrades will come in handy, as a new program always brings some changes in the car performance.
Apart from that, Mercedes boss Ross Brawn said that the use of the DRS twice in every lap will definitely increase the tyre degradation during the race, so it is difficult to predict the new Pirelli tyres’ behaviour in the next weekend.
He went on to mention, “We have two DRS zones which will increase overtaking at a circuit where passing was already possible. With the combination of DRS and the tyres, this should lead to an exciting and eventful weekend.”
Schumacher has been unable to impress his team in the 2011 Formula 1 season so far. After putting again an unimpressive show in the recently held Monaco Grand Prix, he aims to perform strongly on the grid among other strong contenders at the Canadian racetrack.
The seventh round of the 2011 season will take place on June 12, 2011 in Montreal, Canada.
