Mercedes GP driver Schumacher says he is confident for upcoming race weekends – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP driver Michael Schumacher has said that he is confident for the remainder of the 2011 Formula 1 season after finishing his race at the fourth place in the recently held Canadian Grand Prix.
The seven-time world champion added that despite his current condition in the ongoing season, he is still disappointed with his poor start. He further added that he could not live up to his team’s expectations at the start of the 2011 season due to lack
of his MGP-W02 car’s pace.
The Petronas-sponsored team driver was unable to perform better on the grid until the Montreal race weekend. However, he made a positive step towards his team’s success in the Canadian Grand Prix, where he scored decent points for Mercedes and ended up at
the fourth position.
The 42-year-old driver discussed about his performance in the season so far and said, “The positive thing about it is that this time we are able to take all these experiences and this knowledge towards next year. In fact I'm confident that we'll take good
steps forward during the rest of this year. We have plenty of work to do, but we are prepared.”
Schumacher added, “The fact that on the car we have several areas of work in progress. As long as we worry about solving those, the development of the project suffers at times. All our attention is focused on building the team. That's what we focus on at
the moment, with no exception nor limitation.”
The team driver admitted that they have had a poor season compared to the 2011 pre-season testing. He further said that if team wants better results from the drivers, then they have to do more work on their car and make it perfect for the upcoming races.
Schumacher also admitted that his car’s pace is still not very good in the ongoing season.
After taking a positive step in the Montreal race weekend recently, Schumacher is looking forward to a podium place in the upcoming European Grand Prix. The eighth round of the season is scheduled to be held on June 26, 2011 at the Valencia Street Circuit.
