Mercedes GP drivers looking forward to Qualifiers of 2011 Japanese GP – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP drivers Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher are looking forward to the qualifying round of the 2011 Japanese Grand Prix after the successful first two practice sessions on October 7, 2011 at the Suzuka circuit.
The team drivers said that after the first and second Practice sessions on Friday in Japan, they can hope to get better results from the qualifying round and raceday.
The Petronas-sponsored team driver Schumacher talked to the media and stated that both of the practice sessions were typical for them at the Suzuka circuit.
The seven-time world champion commented, “We were working on setup issues as usual and achieved much of what we wanted, however we are aware that the character of our car and the character of this track are not a perfect match and there are areas still to
work on.”
The 42-year-old driver further mentioned that they will try to improve their position further until the end of the Japanese Grand Prix following their positive start in the race weekend.
Schumacher was at the eighth position in FP1 with a gap of 2.399 seconds behind McLaren’s Jenson Button, who topped both FP1 and FP2. The German improved in FP2 in terms of lap time. He was 0.809 seconds off the pace behind Button and finished his Practice
run at the sixth position in the end.
His teammate Rosberg did not take a good start in the Japanese race weekend, as he was unable to finish his FP1 in the top ten positions. He set the seventh fastest time in FP2 with a gap of 1.081 from Button.
After his successful Practice runs at the Suzuka circuit, Rosberg is confident ahead of the qualifying round, which is scheduled to be held on Saturday, October 8, 2011.
He mentioned, “We had two challenging sessions today as we worked to get the balance of the car right on high and low fuel loads. However at the end of P2, I'm happy with what we learnt, and I think all is going in the right direction for tomorrow.”
Let’s see how both of them perform in the Qualifiers and raceday.
