Mercedes GP hire Bob Bell as Technical Director
Mercedes GP have hired former Renault team chief Bob Bell as their Technical Director.
He will be commencing his work with the German team from 1 April, 2011 and will be reporting to Mercedes GP team principal Ross Brawn.
Bell has worked with other Formula 1 teams for three decades and has a lot of experience in the sport. He has represented McLaren, Benetton, Jordan and Renault in his illustrious career.
After the race fixing scandal in 2009 involving Renault, Bell was also promoted as the acting team principal following the departure of Flavio Briatore and Pat Symonds.
The newly hired Technical Director for Mercedes was excited after his selection and said, “It will be a privilege to be a part of such a strong and determined organisation, and to be able to contribute to furthering the enviable heritage of Mercedes-Benz
in motorsport.”
Team principal of Mercedes GP Ross Brawn said that it will be an honour to have Bell in the team. He said that the move will strengthen his team as Bell is one of the most experienced engineers in Formula 1.
Brawn further added that considering the knowledge that Bell possesses, Mercedes will definitely be on top of other teams and his presence will be nothing less than an asset for the German outfit.
Mercedes are looking forward to a much-improved season in 2011. They had a terrible previous season considering the resources they have. They were expected to win races and challenge other top teams but their dreams were shattered following several low-key
performances by their drivers Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg.
The team vowed to bounce back in the new season but they have not had the best of times during the two pre-season tests at Valencia and Jerez. Their drivers put up mixed performances and suffered car reliability issues.
The German giants will take every possible step to be able to win races regularly and Bell’s appointment seems a giant leap in that direction.
