Mercedes GP hoping for best results in the 2011 Formula 1 season – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP headed by Ross Brawn had a disastrous 2010 Formula 1 season but the team is expected to make a ‘comeback’ in 2011 since they have a pretty strong car for the upcoming season.
The team reintroduced the seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher to Formula 1 in 2010 after the German retired after the 2006 Formula 1 season. However, the team was unable to compete with the top running teams that is Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull
Racing team in 2010 and as a result, the team finished in 4th place in the constructors’ standings.
Their drivers Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher finished in 7th and 9th places in the drivers’ standings respectively but disappointingly, Michael did not perform up to his fans’ expectations as he finished
around 70 points behind his own teammate in the same piece of machinery.
Nevertheless, the team’s chief executive officer Nick Fry claims that the team is hoping for a successful 2011 Formula 1 season and they are satisfied with their new cars performance at the first pre-season test session that took place in Valencia a couple
of days ago.
“After the testing in Valencia (last week), we are making sure everything works properly and generally we are sorting out the different systems of the car,” said Nick.
He added that both of the drivers are now comfortable with the new machinery and the team is expected to compete for the titles this year as well alongside McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull Racing.
Lotus Renault GP might prove to be a competitive challenge for the top running teams as well but as we all know, anything can happen if Formula 1.
“I am very pleased to say that the feedback from the drivers was very positive. The car was different from last year's car. We are looking forward to a successful season,” said Fry.
Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg are quite confident as well and it would be interesting to see how the two drivers perform this year against each other.
“We are expecting Michael to win races. He is someone who is devoted to Formula One. After one year coming back to F1 races, he has a good feeling about the new car and we hope for a strong performance from Michael,” according to Nick Fry.
It is going to be an exhilarating season and the first couple of races are going to be extremely vital for the top running teams as the team to secure a healthy lead in the beginning would have a huge advantage over its rivals.
