Mercedes GP marks the fastest pit crew of 2010
Although the team failed to produce the fastest car of the 2010 season on the track, Mercedes GP’s pit crew proved to be the best during the season’s pit stops.
A recent analysis disclosed that the average pit times of both the German drivers, Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg, had been the best all through the season. While all the teams kept struggling to improve their pit stops, which
can bring vital changes in a race’s result, the Brackley based team stayed at the top of all through the season.
The 2010 season saw a very big change in the FIA regulations, as refueling was banned at the beginning of the year. After this, the cars mostly went only once to the pits all through the race, for the change of tyres.
This season has seen some of the quickest pit stops ever witnessed before in the series. The quickest of the year was observed in Monza by Red Bull Racing as the World Champion Sebastian Vettel was served by the team in just 2.9
seconds.
However, as the season ends, Mercedes stands with the fastest crew in the pit lane giving the quickest stop of the day to its drivers in 8 of the total 19 races. In Malaysia, Turkey, Germany, China, Spain, Monaco, Britain and Belgium,
the team was able to mark the swiftest pit stops.
Next to it stands, Red Bull being able to give the best pit timings in 5 of the races namely, Bahrain, Australia, Hungary, Italy and Abu Dhabi. With the fastest car on the track, RB6 and some perfect tyres changes, the team now
stands as the winner of both the Drivers’ as well as the Constructors’ Championship.
The third place in the pit stops has been taken by Ferrari as it was the fastest in three of the races. Next is BMW Sauber with their best timings in Korea and Brazil.
On the other hand, possessing the third fastest car on the grid, behind Red Bull and Ferrari, McLaren was not even able to grant a great pit stop to its drivers more than once. Only in Japan, where the team drivers were already
struggling with a variety of issues, the pit crew got momentum and gave the fastest pit stop of the day.
Currently, Mercedes is the only team on the grid using a fully automatic 'traffic light' system while all the others still use the traditional 'lollipop man'.
