Mercedes GP show promising run in afternoon Chinese Grand Prix practice session – Formula 1 news
Formula 1 Mercedes GP duo Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher showed their promising outing in the afternoon Chinese Grand Prix free practice session.
Both finished in fourth and fifth places for their team respectively and as a result, they are hopeful for a strong weekend in China.
Schumacher said, “We concentrated mainly on high fuel loads, and it seems we can find the set-up better than starting from low fuel. The long runs were good in my view which is clearly an improvement on the first two races.”
After the successful opening practice session, all Formula 1 teams participated in the second part of practice, where Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel again topped the session and ended his race with the fastest time of the day.
McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton was at the second place. However, he was quite happy, as he made a good run after his disappointing race in Malaysia. At the end of the session, Hamilton discussed about his commitment to McLaren and said, “I'm here, I'm committed
to them. I want to try and help them as well as becoming one of the most successful drivers myself. I want them to be out there to do that for me.”
His teammate Jenson Button retained his wonderful run in the afternoon practice at the Shanghai circuit and put his team on the third spot. Due to their outclass run in the practice day, McLaren are looking for podium positions in the Chinese GP.
Felipe Massa again put Ferrari at the sixth place, as he did in the opening practice session, while Fernando Alonso completed his run in the 14th place, as his car experienced some technical issues during the session.
Mark Webber, who took a solid start to the Chinese GP weekend, was not able to gather his best run in the second half of the practice session and could only manage a 10th place for the team on the time-sheet.
Renault’s Nick Heidfeld and Force India’s Paul di Resta had a difficult afternoon, as they both faced some mechanical issues during the session.
Lotus drivers, Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen were happy, as they completed a trouble-free run in the rest of the session.
Some F1 drivers again completed only their installation laps during the session due to having technical issues in their machines.
