Mercedes GP still unsatisfied with their progress in 2011 season – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP have said that they are still unsatisfied with their race progress in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
The team also mentioned that they need to make more improvements in their performance, as the drivers are still unable to give a strong performance in the season.
The Petronas-sponsored team had a tough start in the ongoing season. However, both the drivers, especially Nico Rosberg seemed to be improving in the Chinese and Turkish Grands Prix, where he has struggled for a podium place finish.
His teammate Michael Schumacher kicked off to a poor start to the season, as he was unable to manage his run in a decent form. After a disappointing race weekend, he has shown a much better performance in the recently held Spanish Grand Prix, where he came
on top in the first qualifying session. He finished his race in the sixth spot ahead of Rosberg, who was at the seventh place.
However, the team was a little bit disappointed with his second driver’s performance, as they expected a podium finish from him in the race.
In contrast, Mercedes were very happy with the seven-time world champion’s performance, as he pushed to live up to the team’s expectations in the recent race weekend.
The Mercedes-Benz motorsport boss Norbert Haug has discussed the car’s performance and said that the team delivered a competitive package in the previous race weekends, but they have no knowledge why it has not increased the downforce of the car on the grid
so far.
In addition, Haug is unsatisfied with the MGP-W02 car’s pace in the ongoing season. He further added that they must introduce the fastest car in the remainder of the season for better results.
The boss added about the package, “These are not [just] words. Ross [Brawn] is such an experienced guy, and we have so many good and dedicated people in the team, they are working very hard, doing their best – but we need an upgraded technical package. That
is what we are working on – and I think we have good possibilities to achieve that.”
Mercedes plan to deliver more upgrades to the car in the Monaco Grand Prix, as they are looking forward to successful race weekend, scheduled to be held on May 25, 2011 in Monaco.
