Mercedes GP team boss Ross Brawn says season not yet over for them – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP team boss Ross Brawn has said that the 2011 Formula 1 season is still in his team’s reach and that they can improve their performance despite the fact that they have had a below par start to the season.
Brawn told the media that since there are still 13 races left in the 2011 Formula 1 season, the season is far from over yet for all teams.
“We have only six races behind us. It is too early to say what has gone wrong,” Brawn said ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix.
The team has not been able to secure a single podium so far in the season and according to the seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher, the team is not going to become a “race-winning team” until the beginning of the next season.
Both of the teams’ drivers Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher have been struggling to perform once again as the team scored some disappointing results in 2010 as well.
Rosberg is currently in 7th place in the drivers’ standings while Schumacher is in 11th place. The best performance by the team was at the Turkish and Chinese Grand Prix where Nico scored 5th place finishes.
Nevertheless, Brawn claims that the team still wants to achieve the best possible results this year before admitting that they are trying to come up with some improvements in order to ensure a good car for the next season.
“There have been so many changes this year which we have to understand better in order to have a better car next year,” he said.
Both of the drivers are way behind the championship leader Sebastian Vettel in terms of points. Since McLaren and Ferrari are the only two teams that are close to matching Red Bull Racing team’s pace, it seems that Mercedes are not going to be a part of
the top running teams in 2011. However, with the amount of races left in the season, anything can be expected.
