Mercedes GP team principal Ross Brawn against 2011 Formula 1 season stretch to December – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP team Principal Ross Brawn has voiced against the 2011 Formula 1 season finale in December by stating that the team members will be pushed to work over the limit, which is unacceptable.
Brawn stated that after the Resource Restriction Agreement, Formula 1 teams cannot afford two different units so that one works and the other one rests.
He said, “I think as a team principal who works and has to look after the group of people we have, you have to remember they have been going since the end of January.”
He added that the workload will be unbearable for the teams due to which some people will decide against it.
Formula 1 teams and technical staff only get an approximate two-month break after working for a whole year. If the season is stretched to December, the breathing time will be cut by half.
The season stretching beyond December is a likely result if the Bahrain Grand Prix is rescheduled for the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone came up with an idea that if Bahrain gives a green light, the last Grand Prix of the season will be pushed to December and Bahrain will be given the October 30 slot.
Brawn thinks that after the RRA, Formula 1 teams cannot afford to have two working units just like in other motorsports.
“We cannot have two teams. We could make a step to have two teams, like they do in NASCAR or other series, but with the RRA. We are restricted about the number of people we can have, so we cannot structure our organisation with two separate race teams,”
added Brawn.
Nevertheless, Bernie is looking firm on his decision of reinstating the Bahrain GP so that the struggling nation gets a chance to rejoice.
For now, the season continues in Barcelona on May 22, 2011 with the fifth out of the 19
scheduled races while Bahrain remains missing from the 2011 Formula 1 calendar.
The organisers of the Bahrain GP are likely to give their official word on holding of the race by June 1, 2011.
