Mercedes GP team principal Ross Brawn says they have increased their pace – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP team principal Ross Brawn has recently stated that his team has done a great job in improving its car despite the fact that they were not in a very good position during the beginning of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
“Obviously we're still trying very hard. Interestingly we kind of do an analysis after each race and generally we're clawing it back, slowly - obviously not as quick as we would like because I think there's pretty intense competition at the front so they're
working ferociously to improve their situation and we're also trying to catch up,” he said.
However, he admitted that the reduced gap is still not enough when it comes to lap times as they are still nowhere near the top running teams.
Before the beginning of the 2011 Formula 1 season, Mercedes GP were looking very good during the pre-season test sessions and it seemed that they would be one of the top running teams of the sport this year which was their main goal.
After the beginning of the season, everything collapsed for them as they were unable to keep that pace or maybe because Red Bull Racing team, McLaren and Ferrari improved a bit too much.
Brawn claims that the team did not get the ‘technology’ earlier on this season as a result of which they were unable to score some good results but at least now, they are stabilising.
“If we had six months worth of performance developments in the car now we would be looking a lot better. So really that's what we are trying to do,” he added.
However, the team has admitted that they need to work really hard in order to get the pace they are aiming for as a result of which, they have started working on their 2012 car already.
It has been revealed that Michael Schumacher is going to stay for the 2012 Formula 1 season as well and that the team is going to keep Nico Rosberg as well.
The next year is going to be quite interesting for them as they will once again aim for the titles and hopefully perform at their best.
