Mercedes GP wish to seal the season on a good note
Although Mercedes GP failed to shine brightly at Yas Marina this Friday during the practice sessions yet the team believes to end up the season on a good note.
The very exciting and thrilling 2010 Formula One season is getting prepared to enter its last and final arena this Sunday for the Abu Dhabi Grand prix. Just before the heading for the race this Sunday, all the teams came out for the Friday practice sessions,
which did not see the Mercedes GP drivers cruise as expected.
The second practice last evening saw the young German team driver, Nico Rosberg end at tenth place while his teammate, the 7-time world Champion Michael Schumacher was the 11th fastest man on the track. Similarly, the first practice session saw Schumacher
at 7th place while Rosberg was hardly able to mark his fastest lap in the 9th spot.
Still, both the drivers seem happy with the way their cars reacted on the track and hope to see a stronger Saturday practice and then a great last qualifying of the season.
The team has had some very encouraging rounds as the season reached its last stage. The racing icon, Schumacher underwent huge scrutiny all through the season, as he was not able to perform well. However, the last two races, the Japanese Grand Prix and the
Brazilian Grand Prix saw the driver perform pretty well ending at 6th and 4th places respectively. After the last round in Brazil, as the driver gave one of his best finishes of the season on the wet tricky track, expectations from him
have risen once again.
After the Friday’s practice session Rosberg talked to the media saying, "We made some good progress today and are definitely going the right way with the set-up. It took some time and a few steps in different directions to find the improvements, and whilst
there are some issues that we need to solve, overall it is looking okay.”
The F-duct of the young German’s car did not work properly during the first two sessions however, the team told that it will get fixed overnight and the weekend will see them in a better pace.
Moreover, the Mercedes motorsport chief, Norbert Haug proclaimed that the team has improved a lot in the past few races. He told that they are all very optimistic for the upcoming season and hope to perform far better than the current one. However, he added
that all he wishes for, at the moment is a brilliant finish at the last round. He believes that a happy ending of this season would further provide them with an impetus and would be a good omen for the next season.
He continued telling that this marked the debut year for the team under the Mercedes GP title, and although it was not much like he expected it to be, yet he is positive for the next season.
While talking to the reporters after the practice sessions Haug said, “Our lap times in race conditions did not look too bad at the end of the session. As at the last few races, we will try to get the best possible places on the grid behind the quicker cars
and then aim to improve during the race.”
He concluded saying that the last race of the season marks their final test of a tough inaugural season. He explained that a lot of preparation for the upcoming season has already been done. The team gave up their development work on this season’s car quite
earlier and moved ahead to work on the next year’s package. Having put in so much energy and time, all expect to see the team doing wonders in the next season.
